LIMA, Peru (Special to Turf Diario) - The return to Monterrico for Eliitas could not have been better. After his poor performance in the Gran Premio Joaquín S. de Anchorena (G1), the afternoon of the Carlos Pellegrini (G1) at the Hipódromo de San Isidro, the Argentine horse was the great figure on Sunday's card at Monterrico, winning the Clásico Perinox (L-1600 m, sand), the same race in which 12 months earlier he had finished second.

There is no doubt that the local middle distance is the strongest for the son of Catcher In the Rye owned by the Stud Jet Set, whose dominance this time was final, without letting his rivals complicate him, leading from the start and getting firm in the final stretch, closing with luxury.

At the end, Juan Suárez Villarroel's trainee finish 5 3/4 lengths ahead of Agnar (The Lieutenant), who chased him unsuccessfully throughout all the race. At 6 1/4 lengths back, the also Argentine Super Omarcito (Super Saver), Eliitas' teammate, completed the trifecta, all in a time of 1m38s83/100.

Carlos Trujillo was on the irons of Eliitas, which in his previous local start, before his trip, had won in the Enrique Martinelli Tizó Classic (L) - as in 2022. Now his campaign speaks of 12 victories in 23 appearances, with 8 of them coming on stakes level, since, to the aforementioned wins, must be added those he got in the clásicos Coronel Alfonso Ugarte (L) -2 times-, Arrabal (L), Fiestas Patrias and Antinoo, without forgetting that he was second in the Polla de Potrillos (G1) and in the Ricardo Ortíz de Zevallos (G1), among other excellent performances.

Half brother to champion Nanda Dea (Fortify) and to G1W Nanabush (Il Campione), all of them bred by Haras Santa Inés, with the health on his side, Eliitas is set to dominate the Monterrico middle distance this season.

The card also included another strong step with the Ala Moana Classic (L-1600 m, turf), measuring 3yo and up mares, and with Inkaterra (Meal Penalty) beating argentinian Fiel Estrellita (Il Campione) by 3/4 of a lenght, with the also Argentinean Gaza Strip (Hi Happy) completing the trifecta. Miguel Vilcarima was on board of the winner.
