The son of Hurricane Cat figures as a top contender for the G3 Asociación Bonaerense de Propietarios de Caballos de Carrera

LA PLATA – Barring any last-minute strikes, protests, or storms—a rarity these days—the local track looks set to host a full racecard Tuesday, headlined by the G3 Asociación Bonaerense de Propietarios de Caballos de Carrera (1200m, dirt), a key stop on the region’s sprint calendar. The division will ultimately point toward the G2 Clásico Ciudad de La Plata on November 19, but this heat promises fireworks of its own.
Open to 3-year-olds and up, the race drew a compact but intriguing field of seven, with all eyes on the ageless Surfing Boy, who continues to defy time at the age of nine. The son of Hurricane Cat owns 11 wins from 45 starts and enters off a gutsy score in the Listed Clásico Onesto Puente, where he rallied from off the pace to edge out Minero de Oro(Violence) by half a length. Representing Caballeriza El Doce, he’s once again the horse to beat.
His main rival could be Arcanum (Horse Greeley), who has disappointed in three consecutive runs but boasts top-level back class. He was last seen turning in a powerful two-length win over Garufa Mask (Mask) in the Clásico Benito Lynch (L) last October, and a return to that form would put him right in the mix.
Veterans D'Or Van (Van Nistelrooy) and Hit Tifón (Hit It a Bomb) will share the gate once again, though both finished well behind the favorite in the Onesto Puente. Inconsistent by nature, either could spring a surprise on a going day.
El Oro Negro (Il Campione) is set for a comeback after 265 days on the sidelines. He was last seen finishing fifth in the Clásico Gendarmería Nacional Argentina at San Isidro, beaten 8 3/4 lengths by El Patio (Il Campione).
Rounding out the lineup are Le Massif (Le Ken) and Flor de Vista (Orpengamio), both longshots hoping to deliver a major upset in a race that could go a long way in shaping the local sprinting picture.
