Azul's best long-distance runner traveled to San Luis to win one of the most important races of the season and will now aim for the Gran Premio Vicente Dupuy (G3).
LA PUNTA, San Luis (Special for Turf Diario) - Back Story, the best horse of 2024 at Hipódromo de Azul, traveled for the first time to this city to step up and win this Sunday the Gran Premio Jorge Laffue (L-1800 m, dirt), one of the most important races of each season there and that opened the 2025 calendar, already focusing on what in a few weeks will be the Gran Premio Vicente Dupuy (G3).
The son of Incurable Optimist had just won the clásicos Bartolomé J. Ronco and Ciudad de Azul, and now he returned to show all his category, relying on his vast experience, taking a leading role from very early on and also showing a distinguished fighting power.
With Facundo Campos on the irons, the Stud Los Velezanos horse let Bangladés (Daddy Long Legs) run away fast, chased by Master Mago (Master of Hounds). The latter caught up with the leader on the turn and from then on both started a fight that the winner watched from a little further back.
In the stretch, the front runners opened up and Back Story charged through the middle of the stretch and, began to dominate and then held off the charge of J be Storm (J be K) and the resistance of Master Mago to beat them by 3/4 lengths and half a length, respectively, with Votemos (Manipulator) coming in fourth, 3 1/2 lengths back.
Bred by Haras El Paraíso, and under the care of Juan M. Olmos, Back Story added his seventh victory along 40 appearances, adding the 6,000,000 pesos that were destined to the winner and raising his earnings to more than 21,000,000 pesos. In terms of stakes races, it was his fourth success, as he won the Ciudad de Azul twice.
The card had another race of interest, although it was a not computable one. It was the Especial Verano(1200 m, dirt), for 3 years old and up. Copy Sound (Long Island Sound and Copypaste, by Treasure Beach, Haras Abolengo) prevailed there, with Daniel Gómez on the irons.
The other winners of the day were Me Prometiste (Cima de Triomphe), Wild Form (Puerto Escondido), Le Morne (True Cause) and Mantenido (Silentio).
