Boyero Spring, a son of Greenspring, captured the victory in the Clásico after being involved in the incident that led to jockey Jeremías Veliz parting company with Goleador Chuck during the early stages of the race; Rumor de Fuego was a late scratch

LA PLATA, Argentina – Before Thursday’s card at La Plata was eventually called off, the first of the two scheduled stakes races was run: the Clásico AP Candy (2100m, dirt), where the late scratch of heavy favorite Rumor de Fuego (Daddy Long Legs) suddenly turned the tables, opening the door of opportunity for the rest of the field.
No one capitalized better than Boyero Spring, who, ironically, was also involved in the incident that marred the early stages of the race. As the field entered the first turn, jockey Jeremías Veliz suffered a hard fall when Goleador Chuck(Chuck Berry) clipped heels with the eventual winner and went down, causing concern as Veliz struck the ground face-first.
Once the dust settled, the race unfolded with Preludio Lento (Daddy Long Legs) setting the early fractions ahead of the favored Demonio Risk (Security Risk), though the latter took over on the backstretch and appeared in control. That lead was under constant siege, however, with Furious Desain (Furious Key) and Madero Al Compás (Daddy Long Legs) looming large around the final turn. Meanwhile, Boyero Spring, who had bided his time in the rear, was beginning to launch a wide and determined bid.
Turning for home, Demonio Risk dug in bravely under pressure, but when Juan Cruz Rivarola set Boyero Spring down in earnest, the race was over. The son of Greenspring swept past and drew off with ease to score by three lengths, stopping the clock in 2:13.16. Madero Al Compás was another length back in third, with the rest finishing within range, after fractions of :25.69, :50.52, 1:15.68, 1:40.54, and 2:07.25.
Trained by Esteban Brown for Stud Los Caños, Boyero Spring was bred by Haras Vikeda out of Beautiful Star(American Chance), also dam of stakes winner Candy Billion (Señor Candy), who took the Clásico Debutantes in Tandil, and Bacana Girl (Greenspring), the dam of Echale Azucar (Orpen), third in the Clásico Club Hípico de Tandil (L).
