The Vacación-owned mare captured Sunday’s Clásico Jockey Club del Perú at La Plata

LA PLATA, Argentina – Backed by her experience and a well-timed ride from Juan Cruz Villagra, Candy Fydelivered a gritty victory in Sunday’s featured Clásico Jockey Club del Perú (1500m, dirt) at La Plata, representing the colors of Stud-Haras Vacación.
The daughter of Fortify was coming off a surprising loss in allowance company, but returned to the surface and setting where she has done her best work—and once again proved she belongs among the higher earners in the division.
Melisandra (Storm Embrujado) set the pace through modest fractions of :24.25 and :47.80, but faded along the rail turning for home, leaving the door open for the favorite. Candy Fy took command down the center of the track and, once in front, refused to yield.
Tac-Tac made an inside move and shifted out noticeably, but couldn’t get past. Meanwhile, the northern invader Rebecca Hi (Hi Happy) launched a late bid from the outside to finish second, just a half-length behind the winner and a neck ahead of Tac-Tac. Another 8 lengths back in fourth was Jin Jin (Full Mast), who disappointed some backers in her comeback run.
Trained by José Luis Correa Aranha and saddled on the day by Marina López Bragante, Candy Fy was bred by Haras Rodeo Chico and now owns 4 wins, including 2 at the stakes level. She stopped the clock in a solid 1:31.93 over a somewhat testing surface.
