They will look to repeat their victories from a year ago in the Gran Premio de las Américas – OSAF (G1) and the Gran Premio Ciudad de Buenos Aires (G1), respectively

Two of Argentina’s top performers are set to headline the star-studded May 1 program at Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo, as El Exito and Labrado gear up to defend their crowns in the G1 Gran Premio de las Américas – OSAF(1600 meters, dirt) and the G1 Gran Premio Ciudad de Buenos Aires (1000 meters, dirt), respectively.
A son of Il Campione, El Exito enters the mile feature riding a wave of momentum, having reeled off three dominant victories in succession. Most recently, he was an emphatic winner of the G2 Clásico Benito Villanueva, and is expected to face up to seven rivals in his return to G1 company.
Among those pointing to the race are Descamisado (Cosmic Trigger), Easy Way Out (Il Campione), Fiolo Boss (Holy Boss), Folie Ninja (Hat Ninja), Safety Honour (Safety Check), Song Joy (Fortify), and Storm Sound (Hi Happy), a solid cast, though smaller than initially anticipated.
Labrado, meanwhile, will make his third consecutive start in Palermo’s signature straight-course sprint, having narrowly missed in 2023 to Uruguayan star Girona Fever (Texas Fever), before capturing the title in 2024.
The Le Blues colt has not raced since finishing third in the G1 Gran Premio Félix de Alzaga Unzué in December over the turf at San Isidro. The May 1 date could carry added significance, as he awaits confirmation of a third straight title as Argentina’s Champion Sprinter at the upcoming Carlos Pellegrini Awards.
A total of 17 have been entered for the Ciudad de Buenos Aires, including top local filly Lagoa Azul (Lenovo), the current leader among Palermo’s sprinting females, and El Mejor Recuerdo (Il Campione), a dominant force around a bend who will test his skills going straight.
Also among the entries are seven additional fillies and mares: A La Vista (Angiolo), Aubrie (Angiolo), Barbacoa Key(Key Deputy), Eleven Mile (Il Campione), Enjoy Dancing (Hi Happy), Fantastic Bomb (Hit it a Bomb), and Realizada Cat (Hurricane Cat).
The list is rounded out by Cerrito Piñón (Manipulator), El Fruto (Il Campione), Filoso Class (Filoso Emperor), Príncipe Soñado (Fragotero), Ruler Man (Manipulator), Say It Fast (Cosmic Trigger), and Yukon Jack (Glory Seattle).
Mile and sprint specialists alike promise to deliver fireworks on Argentina’s Labor Day.
