The son of Distinctiv Passion went wire-to-wire to beat Vladimir by 3 lengths; it marked the silks eighth win in the race
Alfredo Camogli and his Haras El Alfalfar had a dream afternoon this Sunday, with their runners winning both the Guillermo Kemmis (G3-1000m) and Carlos Casares (G3-1000m) Stakes, key events in the selective process on the dirt track at the Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo.
For the second time, the turquoise and black colors accomplished such a powerful double, previously achieved in 2014 when the victories came courtesy of the colt Americano Key (Key Deputy) and the filly East Key (Key Deputy).
El Alfalfar is a stud farm renowned for specializing in speed. The farm focuses its breeding practices on this goal, carefully selecting both genetics and stallions. For the past 30 years, sires such as Easing Along (Storm Cat), Key Deputy (Deputy Minister), and now Distinctiv Passion (With Distinction) have generously contributed to this mission.
As it had in 2005, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2013, 2014, and 2019, El Alfalfar again claimed the Kemmis, now through Fantasioso Pass, who had previously finished third in the Congreve (L) at San Isidro. Returning to the track where he made his winning debut, Fantasioso Pass delivered a strong performance. Under Marcelo Sueldo's training—presented by Juan Pablo E. Díaz— and with Gonzalo Borda in the saddle, Fantasioso Pass set the pace from the start, with a quick break and matching strides with Vladimir (Il Mercato) and Exclamación Pass (Distinctiv Passion), also from El Alfalfar.
From the 300-meter mark to the finish line, he pulled ahead once again, finishing with confidence. The final margin was three lengths over Vladimir, with Exclamación Pass crossing third by a neck, all completed in 55.10 seconds. Gran Porteñito (Dabster) finished fourth, followed by Alado Frank (Gidu) and Forgging (Forge) at the rear, both of whom had made strong debuts.
Out of Fantasy Zone (Easing Along), Fantasioso Pass proved he is in his element on the Palermo dirt, and now attention turns to whether his precocity and speed can carry him to victory in the 1200-meter Clásico Santiago Luro (G2). Given the way he finished, there's every indication he might just be able to take that extra step..
