Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo has announced the purse structure for its upcoming major card on May 1

Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo announced Thursday around midday that its blockbuster May 1 program will feature total purses of $380,240,000, highlighted by six Group 1 events. The marquee contest will be the G1 Gran Premio República Argentina (2000m, dirt), the season’s most prestigious race for older horses and the final leg of the Campeonato de Oro.
Open to 3-year-olds and up, the República Argentina will offer a total purse of $137,000,000, with $60 million awarded to the winner. That figure represents an increase of approximately 120% from last year, when El Kodigo (Equal Stripes) earned a $28 million winner’s share after defeating Mezzopiano (Daddy Long Legs).
The runner-up this year will collect $21 million, while third through eighth place finishers will earn $15 million, $10.2 million, $7.2 million, $5.4 million, $4.8 million, and $4.2 million, respectively. Horses finishing from ninth to twelfth will receive a $2.3 million bonus. Total entry costs amount to $2.74 million, including a $274,000 nomination fee and the balance due at the time of final confirmation.
The G1 Gran Premio Criadores (2000m, dirt), for fillies and mares aged 3 and up and a Win and You’re In qualifier for the GI Breeders’ Cup Distaff, will distribute a total of $61.51 million, with $27 million to the winner. The race also serves as the female finale of the Campeonato de Oro.
The G1 Gran Premio de las Américas – OSAF (1600m, dirt) will carry a purse of $57.25 million, including $25 million to the winner, while the G1 Gran Premio Ciudad de Buenos Aires (1000m, dirt) will be worth $44.6 million, with $20 million to the victor. Both races are open to horses aged 3 and up.
Rounding out the top-level features, the G1 Gran Premio Montevideo (1500m, dirt) for colts and the G1 Gran Premio Jorge de Atucha (1500m, dirt) for fillies will each offer $39.94 million in total purse money, with $18 million going to the winner.
Entries for the República Argentina series will close early, with nominations due by noon on April 21, and final confirmations accepted until midday Monday, April 25. The post position draw is scheduled for 6 p.m. on April 26.
