The farm of Silvia and Marcos Alfonso will offer 2023 yearlings, weanlings, and broodmares, with the sale set to begin at 3 p.m.

MIGUEL RIGLOS, La Pampa (Special to Turf Diario) – Final preparations are underway at Haras Masama, where Silvia and Marcos Alfonso are set to host the latest edition of their traditional Gran Remate Anual this Saturday. The sale, scheduled to begin at 3 p.m., will feature a mix of 2023 yearlings, 2024 weanlings (some offered at 50% ownership), and broodmares.
Over the past few years, Haras Masama has emerged as one of the most ambitious operations in Argentina’s interior, investing heavily in top-quality bloodlines—most notably those tracing back to Haras La Quebrada, the now-defunct but highly influential breeding farm of the Ceriani Cernadas family, long admired by the Masama team.
That strategy is clearly bearing fruit: the farm is currently vying for a spot in the top 10 on the national breeders' list, holding the highest ranking for any farm located outside Buenos Aires Province.
“We’ve added a number of important broodmares in recent years, and it’s starting to show. We’re also improving the farm little by little and doing our best for the horses we raise,” said Marcos Alfonso, full of optimism ahead of the big day. “We’ll be offering several by Strategos (Zensational), who’s off to a great start at stud, and we’re enjoying the nearly daily wins from the offspring of Nashville Texan.”
The sale catalog features 31 yearlings from the 2023 crop, including 7 by Strategos, several by Nashville Texan(Forestry), and others by Grand Reward (Storm Cat), Malenchini (Lizard Island), and Seahenge (Scat Daddy).
Among the weanlings are offerings by Nashville Texan, Emotion Orpen (Orpen), and members of the first crop by G1 winner Fondo Tropical (Zensational), another stallion on duty at Masama.
Speaking of stallions, the sale will also serve as the official introduction of the farm’s latest addition: Arellano (Angiolo), the only horse in history to win back-to-back editions—specifically the two most recent—of the G1 Gran Premio Félix de Alzaga Unzué.
All is set for another big celebration at Masama, with expectations running high not only for a strong turnout, but for a solid commercial performance as well.
