The Lenovo filly added another victory at the highest level for sprinting mares, solidifying her status as the division's benchmark

Lagoa Azul continues to assert herself as the dominant force among dirt sprinting mares, reaffirming her class with another stakes victory on Saturday at Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo. The imposing Lenovo filly, tipping the scales at 533 kilos, had already captured the General Alvear (L) and made it back-to-back stakes wins in the General Arenales (G3), making easy work of a highly competitive field.
With Cristian Velázquez in the irons, the undefeated runner under the colors of Stud Don Roque wasted no time taking control, seizing the lead as soon as the gates opened and dictating the tempo at will.
Vida Amorosa (Safety Check) loomed on the outside, while Nebula Sky (Falling Sky) tried to challenge along the rail, but neither could land a serious blow. As their riders went to work, Velázquez remained motionless in the saddle, letting the powerful chestnut unleash her final acceleration inside the last 200 meters.
From further back, Realizada Cat (Hurricane Cat), making her stakes debut, produced a strong late rally to take second, finishing one length behind the winner. Another half-length back, Vida Amorosa held on for third, while favorite La Meninha (Le Blues) settled for fourth, just a head behind, once again failing to meet expectations. The 54.74 final clocking speaks for itself—at least for those who put stock in Palermo’s stopwatch.
Trained by José I. Malvassora—a name that seems to rotate as often as license plates these days—Lagoa Azul secured her fifth career win in 18 starts, her last three in a row since changing barns and silks.
Bred by Stud-Haras Gran Muñeca, she delivered yet another stakes victory for the late champion Lenovo (Roman Ruler). Her dam, La Añera Key (Key Deputy), is a full sister to Listed winner Chalchalero Key and Balderrama Key, the latter producing G3 winner Salteño Pass (Distinctiv Passion). She hails from the legendary Sugary (World Cup) family, a cornerstone of Haras El Alfalfar.
