The breeding operation produced the winners of the Manuel Quintela (G3), Los Haras (G3), and Irineo Leguisamo classics
MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay (Special para Turf Diario).- The dominance of Haras Phillipson at the Hipódromo Nacional de Maroñas was felt this Sunday, with the Brazilian stable claiming 3 of the day’s stakes.
With a substantial investment—employing a large team—and taking the risk of bringing in top-level stallions, the results are making a significant impact, especially in the competition.
This time, the yellow, black, and red colors of Benjamin Steinbruch's operation saw the colt Touch of Destiny (Midshipman out of Holanda Yo, by T.H. Approval) win the Clásico Irineo Leguisamo (L), Sandrin Royal (Will Take Charge out of Leca Princess, by T.H. Approval) take the Clásico Los Haras (G3-2000 m, dirt), and with the colors of El Cuarteto, Siempre Feliz (Will Take Charge out of Fada Feliz, by Sulamani) held on for victory in the Clásico Manuel Quintela (G3-2100 m, turf) over In-Verso (War Secretary). In the other major event of the day, the Juan Amoroso (1000 m, dirt) for 2-year-old fillies, Grandinata (Trinniberg out of Granduca, by Exchange Rate) took the win.
Siempre Feliz and In-Verso provided a thrilling finish in the Quintela, with the former leading from the start and holding on fiercely in the final stages to salvage a draw against the strong late run of his rival, with Héctor Lazo and Vagner Leal impressing in the saddle of the two competitors.
Facundo Santesteban trains Siempre Feliz, while In-Verso is under the care of Antonio Cintra and was presented by Jorge Rey.
Meanwhile, Sandrin Royal stayed close to the frontrunner Queen of Clubs (Victory Is Ours), attacked early in the stretch, and gradually shifted the balance in her favor from the 300-meter mark, ultimately winning by 1 1/4 lengths. Trained by Raimundo Soares, she was also ridden by Lazo.
Also under the care of Soares, but with Luis Cáceres in the saddle, Touch of Destiny lived up to his favoritism in the Leguisamo, beating Malandra (Orb) by 1 1/2 lengths.
Opening the day, in the Juan Amoroso, Grandinata took control early and finished impressively, defeating Lovely Night(A Little Warm) by 7 decisive lengths, with the favorite Numeraria (Sloane Avenue) finishing third, 2 lengths further back. Waldemar Maciel and Sergio Dorneles were responsible for the victory for the filly owned by Cabaña El Indio.
