In what was the only meeting of the week, the Hipódromo de San Isidro offered an entertaining program on Wednesday, with a mix of turf and dirt races that highlighted several standout performances. One of the most notable was the impressive debut of the 2-year-old Phanton, who triumphed in the Premio Sound Music over a mile.

Bred in Brazil and owned by Stud RDI, the gray colt lived up to his heavy favoritism (paying $1.80) with a powerful late charge, dominating in the final strides to win decisively. He stopped the clock in 1m36s13/100 on the soft turf.

Ridden by Adrián GiannettiPhanton, trained by Alfredo Gaitán Dassié, began the race towards the back, showing signs of his immaturity. However, once the field straightened, Giannetti found space in the middle of the track, allowing Phanton's long stride to come into play. He overtook Coro de Rojas (Daddy Long Legs), who had led earlier, to win by two lengths.

Phanton is part of the first crop of the stallion Outstrip (Exceed and Excel), who, while racing for Godolphin, won the 2014 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) at Santa Anita Park. His dam, Fleche (First American), is a full sister to G2 Carina First and also the producer of the remarkable No Fear (Agnes Gold), who won the Gran Premio de Potrancas (G1) on the same San Isidro turf and is now in breeding in Japan.

Phanton’s maternal lineage is exceptional, originating from Haras Comalal, which has produced top-class horses for decades. His family includes champions such as Algenib (Oak Dancer) and G1 winners Nortak (Fitzcarraldo), Send In the Clowns (Know Heights), Vitoria Olímpica (Northern Afleet), George Washington (Redattore), Bonaparte(Elusive Quality), Alphard (Just In Case), and Silver Planet (Fitzcarraldo).

With a strong debut performance, Phanton leaves a lasting impression, and all indications are that his abilities will flourish further as the distances stretch. His team will likely prepare him for the upcoming Gran Premio Gran Criterium(G1) on May 25, where he will compete under the same conditions as in his debut.
