The Doug O'Neill-trained runner was unstoppable; Mufasa turned in a solid effort to finish sixth, while Oasis Boychecked in twelfth

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – By a Special Correspondent – The seasoned hands of Frankie Dettori and the natural speed of Raging Torrent proved a lethal combination, delivering yet another American triumph in the G2 Godolphin Mile over 1600 meters on dirt. The win marked a second straight victory in the race for trainer Doug O’Neill and the third of his career.
For Dettori, it was nothing short of his eighth win in the storied Meydan mile and 24th on a Dubai World Cup night—twice as many as any other jockey in the history of the meeting.
Breaking sharply from the gate, the Maximus Mischief colt seized early control from a middle post, with Mufasa(Practical Joke), making his UAE debut for Bhupat Seemar and RRR Racing, applying pressure to his outside for much of the trip.
But rounding the final bend, Raging Torrent revealed both poise and class. Never flustered, he drew off decisively turning for home and sustained his bid through the lane, stopping the clock in 1:36.69 for the mile. King Gold (Anodin) of France and Japan’s Kazu Petrin (Rulership) rounded out the trifecta.
“He’s a lovely horse and he did all the hard work,” said a typically charismatic Dettori. “He broke well, I was able to control the pace and that made all the difference. He ran as a sprinter in the U.S., so I kept that in mind and tried not to move too early.”
A visibly emotional O’Neill added: “I was confident, but that’s why they run the races—you never really know. He broke clean, got to the front, relaxed down the backside… speed has always been his weapon. I’m over the moon and grateful to everyone who made this possible.”
For the legendary Italian, success on a stage like this still resonates deeply: “Eight Godolphin Miles… that’s a pretty incredible record. I think it’s fair to say I grew up here. It’s hugely satisfying to come back and win—now let’s see if we can get the World Cup too.”
