LEXINGTON, Kentucky (Special for Turf Diario) – Haras Los Robles is a relatively young breeding operation, having been established just a couple of years ago. However, Juan da Silva’s ambitious project in Salto, northern Uruguay, is already making a strong impact, contributing to one of the most dynamic racing industries in South America.
With the blisteringly fast White Flag (War Front) as its leading sire, accompanied by Bundibunan (Ghostzapper), the farm has been making significant investments to acquire a high-quality broodmare band. As part of this strategy, Los Robles recently secured some valuable mares at the Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale, including the exceptional Sexy Reasons (Jump Start). A multiple champion in Uruguay, she was bred in Argentina and will now return to the country where she became a racing star.
A winner of the Gran Premio Ciudad de Buenos Aires (G1), Gran Premio Selección (G2), and the Ministerio de Economía y Finanzas (G2), Los Haras (G3), and Diana (G3) stakes, she also finished second in the Forever Together Stakes (L) at Aqueduct. She will soon arrive in South America in foal to Girvin.
Sexy Reasons has only one foal of racing age, but he is already proving himself on the track. Named War Master (Mastery), he has won five of his nine starts at ages two and three, amassing nearly $120,000 in earnings. Additionally, she has a 2023 colt by Mitole (Into Mischief) and a 2024 filly by Girvin (Tale of Ekati).
The champion mare won’t be arriving alone. With the assistance of Carlos Moore, Los Robles also acquired the following mares at Keeneland:
Curly Wurly (Curlin – Antonia Autumn, by Bernstein), in foal to Two Phil’s, out of a stakes-winning dam and from the family of Gio Ponti (Tale of the Cat).
So Mischevious (Into Mischief – Another World, by Maria’s Mon), in foal to Spun to Run, also out of a stakes-winning mare.
Pulchar Valde (Tapit – Fee Fi Fo Fum, by Giant’s Causeway), an Australian-bred mare in foal to Instagrand.
Hard to Please (Hard Spun – Pacify, by Tapit), in foal to Speaker’s Corner, from the family of Bernstein (Storm Cat).
Los Robles boasts a diverse broodmare band that includes mares bred in Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, and the United States. Among them are the outstanding Inalcanzada (British Medium), a 16-time winner with multiple stakes victories; Dona True (Yes It’s True), winner of the Clásico Condesa (G3) and Miss Terrible Stakes at San Isidro; Esquadra Azul (Drosselmeyer), who captured the Clásico Treinta y Tres Orientales (L); and Possessive (Inexplicable), victorious in the Clásico Vargas Garmendia (L).
With solid organization, strong purses, and increasing investments, Uruguayan racing is attracting new breeders eager to revitalize the industry. Haras Los Robles is a prime example of this new wave—growing steadily and doing things the right way.
