Splend Blues, a daughter of the successful Le Blues (Roman Ruler), fetched the highest price at the Haras La MadrinaYearling Sale, held this Tuesday via live online auction and organized by MZ Horse Sales.

The filly, born on August 19, 2023, was acquired for $36,000 by Stud El Legado following a lengthy bidding war that lasted over 15 minutes.

She is out of Splenda (Mutakddim), making her a half-sister to Grand Splendid (Grand Reward), winner of the G3 Clásico Lucio Taborda. She hails from a strong family, including the champion Sweet Beauty (Grand Reward), G1 Patola(High Yield), and graded stakes winners Solarana (Mutakddim), Sinóptico (Southern Halo), and Dolce Diva (Luhuk), among others.

The second-highest price of the auction went to another filly, Bella Equal, born on November 10 and sired by the renowned Equal Stripes (Stripes). She was purchased for $28,000 by trainer Nicolás Gaitán Dassié, on behalf of a client.

Bella Equal is the second foal of La Bella María (Grand Reward), a sister to the dam of G1 winner El Consorte (Grand Reward), and belongs to one of the best maternal lines in Argentine racing, based in Ojo de Agua with a strong presence at La Quebrada, the same family as El Garufa (Luhuk) and El Compinche (Southern Halo), among others.

Completing the top three was Daddy King (Daddy Long Legs and Khalesi Queen, by Roman Ruler), a grandson of G1winner Kali Baby (Aptitude), who was sold for $24,500.

A total of 20 horses went through the virtual ring—two were absent—bringing in a total of $307,000. The average price was $15,350, with a median of $12,600, strong figures considering the large number of yearling sales held in recent weeks, with many more to come.
