LA PLATA. – The local middle-distance division has an undisputed ruler in Storm Sound, and judging by his latest performances, dethroning him will be no easy task. Extending his terrific form, the son of champion Hi Happy proved unstoppable once again, this time to claim the Clásico Vilas Light (1600m, dirt), Sunday’s feature event, which fittingly honored the last colt to sweep La Plata’s Triple Crown.

The absence of Es Aristocrático (Angiolo) certainly removed his most significant—and perhaps only—serious challenger from the equation, but the authority with which he handled business left no doubts. Sent straight to the lead from the break, he was relentlessly pressed by Código Postal (Seek Again), yet his dominance remained unshaken.

Trained at Palermo by Omar LabancaStorm Sound possesses raw speed, an impressive cruising gear, and the stamina to finish with power. That combination was on full display once again as he effortlessly pulled away over the final 300 meters, hitting the wire seven lengths clear of Código Postal, who in turn finished four lengths ahead of a lackluster Adorado Rim (Remote). Call Me Boone (Daniel Boone) and Preludio Lento (Daddy Long Legs) rounded out the field.

To further highlight his impressive performance, Storm Sound stopped the clock in a swift 1:36.13, with fractions of 24.6547.38, and 1:11.48, a time he likely could have improved had he been asked for more late.

As always, Lautaro Balmaceda managed the favorite’s energy to perfection, showcasing his deep familiarity with the dark bay, whom he has ridden in all 21 career starts. Now boasting seven victories, including four at the stakes levelStorm Sound adds this to his prior scores in the Especial Haras El Paraíso and the Clásico Fortunato Novara (G2). Earlier in 2024, he had already secured the Clásico 25 de Mayo de 1810 (G2), a long way from his early days in the alternative ranks.
