There was no shortage of intensity when the chestnut Tapit Scape entered the ring as hip number 19 during Haras Firmamento’s Gran Venta Selección, held Tuesday afternoon at the Tattersall of the San Isidro Racecourse. A prolonged bidding battle unfolded after Antonio Bullrich, leading proceedings for Antonio Bullrich S.A., completed the colt’s introduction. Ultimately, it was Stud La Rosaura that prevailed, edging out Tomás Fernández Llanos and Stud Las Monjitas with a winning bid of US$62,000, securing the top price of the sale.

By Cityscape (Selkirk), one of Argentina’s most reliable sources of stamina, Tapit Scape is out of the U.S.-bred Tapit Song (Tapit), a proven producer whose foals include G3-placed Tapit Ruler (Roman Ruler), three-time winner Tapit Bomb (Hit It a Bomb), and fellow winners Master Tapit (Mastercraftsman) and Song Joy (Fortify). The family, well established at Juan Carlos Bagó’s breeding operation, also includes G3 winner Sing Sing Sing (Remote) and, in the U.S., none other than the champion Silverbulletday (Silver Deputy).

The second-highest price of the day came for a 50% interest in The Great Cocktail (The Great DayCocktail Attire, by Distorted Humor), knocked down to Stud De Galera for US$27,000—implying a full value of US$54,000 for the gray colt. De Galera, a longtime Firmamento partner, famously campaigned the sire of this new acquisition. A half-brother to G1 winner Catch the Cocktail (Catcher In the Rye) and G2-placed Super Cocktail (Super Saver), he hails from a family loaded with black-type credentials.

Another notable offering sold under similar terms was Celestial Day (The Great DayCelestial Candy, by Candy Ride), who was purchased for US$21,000 (US$42,000 total) by trainer Nicolás Gaitán Dassié, acting on commission. A half-brother to two winners, his dam is a sister to champion Sixties Song (Sixties Icon) and stakes winner Master Song(Mastercraftsman).

In total, 39 yearlings entered the sales ring—only one listed in the catalog was withdrawn—generating US$663,500 in total receipts. The average price reached US$17,013, while the median settled at US$15,466.

With another successful edition in the books, Haras Firmamento now sets its sights on 2025, when buyers will eagerly await the debut crop of G1 winner Maxfield (Street Sense), though, as previously announced, he will not return to Argentina next season.
