The entry list is out for the Gran Premio Miguel A. Martínez de Hoz, the first Group 1 of the Argentine season, set for Saturday, February 15 at the San Isidro Racecourse over its traditional 2,000 meters on turf.
Open to horses aged three and older, with weights assigned per the regulations, the race has attracted 10 entries. Leading the field are Acento Final (Treasure Beach) and Crazy Talent (Equal Talent), both sporting a rating of 114.
Acento Final, the winner of the 2024 Gran Premio Jockey Club, is coming off a modest 13th-place finish in the Gran Premio Carlos Pellegrini (G1)—the same event in which Crazy Talent produced an impressive fourth, trailing 1 1/4 lengths behind the already-exported Intense for Me (Fortify) while remaining in contention until the final stages.
Previously, Crazy Talent played a stalking role for Treasure Island (Treasure Beach) in the Gran Premio Dardo Rocha (G1) and for El Kodigo (Equal Stripes) in the Gran Premio General San Martín (G1), a rival he bested when they squared off in the Clásico Comparación.
Another strong entry is the three-year-old Grezzo, who finished eighth in the Pellegrini but has since notch up significant wins—capturing both the Clásico de la Provincia de Buenos Aires (G3) and the Clásico Botafogo (G3), a preparatory race for the Martínez de Hoz.
Also in the likely lineup are Don Tigre (Cityscape), who narrowly trailed in the Botafogo, and Mare Internum (Daniel Boone), the third-place finisher in that race, along with G1 winner Epityrum (Portal del Alto) and Honest Boy (Heliostatic), who was close behind Acento Final in the Jockey Club before fading in the December international.
Rounding out the probable participants are Wages (Lucullan), winner of the Clausura (G2) at La Plata; the G3 El Cid Campeador (Il Campione); and stakes winner Out of the Blue (Brz-Drosselmeyer).
The Martínez de Hoz offers a purse of 70,000,000 pesos, with 35,000,000 pesos going to the winner, and carries a total entry fee of 1,400,000 pesos. Final confirmations will be accepted until noon on Monday, February 10, and—as per standard protocol—all entries must pass a pre-competition test yielding a negative result.
