In the Nueva Generación, the undefeated filly got the better of El Alfalfar’s runner, who later rebounded with a 8 lengths victory in the Mercader (L)

LA PLATA – On a track likely to be near impossible, the selective process for the 2-year-old fillies at Bosque will continue this Tuesday holiday with a new edition of the Clásico Derli A. Gómez (G3-1200m, dirt), a tribute to the unforgettable trainer, one of the turf icons of this city. Little by little, the distances are being stretched, and here lies the challenge for the most precocious names, who will need more than just speed and early ability to continue leading the way. And this is just the beginning.
With 8 fillies confirmed, although it's uncertain whether Flor de Laurel (Il Campione) and La Farce (Emmanuel), who finished third and fourth, respectively, in the Unzué (G2) at Palermo, will repeat their effort, the long-awaited rematch between Baby Pass (Distinctiv Passion) and Calle de Tierra (Strategos) will take place. This is the rematch that couldn’t happen on the day of the Amilcar A. Mercader (L), when the former won by several lengths and the latter was withdrawn from the starting gate.
Earlier, when they faced off in the Clásico Nueva Generación, Calle de Tierra had defeated the El Alfalfar filly by 1 ½ lengths, though it should be noted that it was her debut in the Southern circuit, an experience she later capitalized on with her subsequent victory.
It seems that the story will remain between these names, though races are races, and the unexpected can always happen. Waiting for her opportunity, and acting alongside Baby Pass, is Pitucona Pass (Distinctiv Passion), who secured her first victory on her third attempt. It came on this same track a month and a half ago, though it was a narrow win.
From the Mercader line, Sahara Reward (Grand Reward) arrives, having finished 8 lengths behind Baby Pass, never a serious rival. With four races under her belt, she will likely be in the mix for the higher placings, but to win, she will need to undergo a significant transformation.
Elenika (Winning Prize) showed promise in her debut but finished fourth and some distance off the leaders in the Nueva Generación. She is being given another chance, but, like the previous outing, she will need to make a significant improvement.
And then there’s the long shot Italian Bomb (Hit It a Bomb), almost awaiting a miracle...
