The four classics held between Saturday and Thursday for 2-year-olds were won by progeny of freshman sires: The Great Day (pictured), Gidu, Strategos, and Gouverneur Morris.

The racetracks of Palermo and La Plata experienced new milestones this week in their respective selection processes, with the common fact that each of the four classics that took place were won by progeny of first-generation sires—an incredibly significant piece of news for the national breeding industry looking toward the coming years, sparking hope.

In a dominant performance, Roshita gave Gouverneur Morris (Constitution) a spectacular win in the Saturnino J. Unzué (G2) in Buenos Aires, just moments before The Great Cash put up a brave fight to maintain his unbeaten record in the Santiago Luro (G2), marking a golden point for the talented The Great Day (Harlan's Holiday).

Meanwhile, at La Plata, Calle de Tierra made headlines in the Derli A. Gómez (G3), adding to the tally of Strategos (Zensational), and Takeshi Frank solidified his place among the colts by winning the Agustín B. Gambier (G3) this Thursday, contributing to the success of Gidu (Frankel).

Earlier, Vendaval Joy triumphed in the Clásico Nueva Generación, marking the first classic win for his sire, Roman Joy (Fortify), making it a total of five freshman sires with stakes winners, and this is just the beginning of march.

It’s worth noting that Gouverneur MorrisThe Great DayStrategosGidu, and Roman Joy are all horses from which the best is expected as distances increase, meaning the future may hold even greater accomplishments.

Strategos is the only one among them to show a sprinting campaign, winning a G1 in the straight, but his massive talent later led him to win at the highest level over 2000 meters, an accomplishment with very few precedents.

And if we talk about potential, there are other significant names waiting for their turn to shine, such as Springdom (Sebi Halo), another good sprinter, Mootasadir (Dansili), Tetaze (Equal Stripes), Nicholas (Equal Stripes), and Leofric (Candy Ride).

The first-generation sires are making noise with great results in the classics and excellent involvement at the general level, emerging as the new wave in a field where finding leaders is like searching for a needle in a haystack.
